Respect or Fear?

I see more of shop signs in Marathi (or the Devnagari script),  people making an effort to speak in Marathi (a case: Farhan Azmi, promising to take the oath in Marathi if elected; talking to the media in Marathi – that didnt help though, he lost to the Shiv Sena’s candidate), laws coming up in favour of the “Marathi manoos” (case: New taxi permits only to people who can speak Marathi; when the CM retracted his statement, he was opposed from within his own party and its alliance partner !)

Raj Thackeray and the Shiv Sena campaign for the respect for the local language, culture and the local people.  I wonder whether this new found love for the language and for the locals is out of genuine respect or just out of fear …
